But surely with the Stones it has to really be a different kind of fanatic - the sort of person who's fanatical about the Beatles will usually tend to work on the idea that they were the "most influential" and "most innovative" side of the argument, and following that therefore all other bands are inferior copies (or such seems to be the sort of argument made). They'll point out that the catchy, simple lyrics and instrumentation in their songs formed the roots of modern pop and that people related to it more than any other band.
The Stones fanatics won't really pursue that line of reasoning - they are far more likely to argue that the lyrics are deeper and deal with real world problems. As a result, I find it hard not to imagine the Stones obsessives being altogether more worldly and more rough than the Beatles bores.
