Music magazines and the music media is also an industry and as an industry it needs to make money, to continue to allow those responsible to get very, very fat. Music magazines don't make money if they don't put someone popular on the front cover, as their main selling point.
But you are more concerned with the music industry and its opinions, right? And so, the music industry underrates Jack White?
So tell me this. As you say that it would be naive to take the music writers opinion as representation of the bigger picture, and you just compared their opinion to that of award shows meaning that we shouldn't put much stock in their views on Jack White either, and the fact that the general public and the music listener bought so many units of his latest album that it went to #1 in several countries, including the UK and US but this also doesn't convince you that he may not be as underrated as you think he is - I have to ask exactly who's opinion you are looking to when you say that the music industry isn't recognising him as much as they should.
