He was a black market sex slave being led by a cruel master with other sex slaves, all of which are nude. The master is leading them through the field to their destination avoid roads and the freeing of his slaves. The slaves attempt mutiny but he stifles them, and decides to kill only one of the group as their punishment, which is decided by the pulling of straws. The man that you find pulled the shortest straw and was killed by his master.
