I would think that in the heavy metal universe, especially the thrash/death metal universe, one wouldn't want a voice. Meaning that if one were to sing thrash metal one might want their voice to be deliberately bad, wouldn't you think? It's the kind of music that is supposed to be beyond the conventions of normal music, so I think that it needs a voice that sounds gritty and guttural, and less appealing than the rest of the music world.

I've heard this a lot with the band Mastodon. That the lead singer sounds awful. He sounds like a death metal singer, doesn't he? Isn't that what they were going for...?
