Before he got waylaid by a bad heroin habit, Michael Bloomfield was one of the most soulful blues guitarists ever. I saw him when he was in the Butterfield Blues Band and his playing gave me goosebumps. His playing is bit more understated than Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix but his elegant phrasing was the best of any blues guitarist I've ever heard.

The song Stop is from the first Super Session album.

If you're going for pure tonal effect and the use of sustained notes, then Albert King is your man. The sound of his guitar on Cold Feet is about the funkiest thing I've ever heard. I love the way he deliberately plays dissonant notes just to screw with your mind.
