No the two series are quite different, the original was far more creative and diverse than the current series ever could be, whereas the newer series despite some good ideas, is largely aimed at getting maximum viewing figures on UK television.

Fair enough, well I never said I was reasonably familiar with the series, I fact I said the opposite - I've only just started watching it consistently! So I'm not really one to make any sweeping statements
I love the older Doctor Who episodes I've seen for pure nostalgia of 60s sci fi (am a fan of other older sci fi series) however call me lame but I'm actually enjoying the newer series more as I find it more relevant and relatable... I'm of Gen Y though, I'm only 25, so this could probably play a role in my opinion.
