Loved Eccleston, and was afraid Tennant was going to be too campy for my taste. I've been pleasantly surprised thus far. Tennant's tenth Doctor is a fantastically well-rounded character, humorous and charming, but definitely more complexity than I was expecting.
Yeah, I was really disappointed Chris only stayed for the one season, and then of course there was the backlash against Tennant, but he quickly grew to be my favourite "new" doctor (can't ever beat Pertwee or Baker!) and is definitely in my top three. Matt Smith took longer to "bed in", as it were, and I think I judged him based on what I saw as pretty weak storylines in his opening seasons, but I do like him now. Still prefer Tennant though.

Have to say, even though I like Smith, I prefer Tennant. Smith's doctor comes across a little too "bumbling" for my taste. How does he ever win? He doesn't know anything! Tennant at least came across as someone who seemed like an expert at traveling through time and space. And he managed to seem both approachable and dangerous at the same time. Smith, not so dangerous (although to be fair, in Season 6 of the reboot, seeing him blowing up random ships just to prove a point was pretty freaking sweet.)

Spoiler for Also, everyone watch Asylum of the Daleks yet? :
Anyone have any theories on how the new girl is going to end up on the Tardis since she obviously was turned into a Dalek and then killed when the Asylum blew up?

Bump because the new doctor is to be revealed tonight!

Just started to get into Doctor Who as an adult and while I'm still on the tenth doctor and haven't moved on to Matt Smith yet, I don't think anyone is going to top David Tennant for me He is brilliant!

Any idea who the new doctor is? There are a fair few favourites on the cards but from what I've seen in the past sometimes the favourites turn out to be not even close. I wouldn't mind another eccentric young spunk with crazy hair

When you say you know Doctor Who, are you just referring to the new generation Doctor Who series, or the classic series as well from the 1960s to 1980s?

What do you mean by "I know Doctor Who?"

I'm mainly referring to the new generation Doctor Who series, however, I have seen some (but not all) of the classic series. I really don't think they can be judged side by side, can they?!

I'd always watched the show here and there, but wanted to start getting into it properly, so my whovian family members recommended I start with the tenth doctor, so David Tennant's series are the only ones I've watched consistently from beginning to end, despite being familiar with various parts of the old and new series already.

I didn't mean that you knew him personally I just meant that you were reasonably familiar with the series as a whole.

No the two series are quite different, the original was far more creative and diverse than the current series ever could be, whereas the newer series despite some good ideas, is largely aimed at getting maximum viewing figures on UK television.

are you kidding?

With the exception of a small handful of stories Doctor Who in the 1980s was terrible.

I was talking about it as a whole. I know that in the 1980s it was a far weaker series than in the 60s and 70s but it still had interesting ideas and a quaint feel and it still has a certain amount of nostalgia for me.

Forget the new Doctor, the real news this weekend is my Doctor Who cookie cutters are on their way.

Fair enough, well I never said I was reasonably familiar with the series, I fact I said the opposite - I've only just started watching it consistently! So I'm not really one to make any sweeping statements

I love the older Doctor Who episodes I've seen for pure nostalgia of 60s sci fi (am a fan of other older sci fi series) however call me lame but I'm actually enjoying the newer series more as I find it more relevant and relatable... I'm of Gen Y though, I'm only 25, so this could probably play a role in my opinion.
