Actually it is. Cobain was basically a pop songwriter in the vein of the Beatles and the Kinks, he was a Pixies fanatic, and the whole grunge sound basically came from Black Flag's
My War album which was hardcore punk directly influenced by Black Sabbath. So Unknown is spot on.
