For me it makes a difference because pretty much any rapper can make "gimmick" music..... at least Biggie was creative with his and made iconic songs that are held as classics today. I personally dont have a problem with gimmick music just as long as it is creative ex. Missy Elliott.
However, I think implementing social, political issues etc shows variety and artistic growth.
