However, I realised they don't really like me and only invite me for stupid reasons. So my situation is, they asked me to go paint balling with them and at first I thought it would be fun and a chance to permanently in their group. However I found out that the only reason I was invited was so they had enough people to get a discount. Can you tell me whether I should still go?
F*ck cliques. You'll [hopefully] grow out of it anyway. Hang out with people you like being around and vice versa. You're not going to get any fulfillment out of trying to be accepted into, and measure up to, another stratum of arbitrary (and temporary) cool-group-in-the-schoolyard people you have no real commonality with. It will likely end up with you spending your time unsuccessfully trying to be one of them, and them spending your time using you.
It's not worth it on any level, unless you're just there for a piece of ass. In which case, if you think you actually have a shot, yea, go paint balling with them and try to score a bonus level. Otherwise, you should not be putting much effort into it beyond that, because you'll most likely end up regretting it and pissing off your real friends in the process.

If there's one thing you should learn sooner rather than later, it's that you should just be yourself and expend your efforts where they are appreciated on their own merits. Save the ladder climbing for when it actually matters after you're in a career and all grown up. By then, I guarantee you that you will consider your current conundrum to be an insignificant adolescent learning process even if you do score that piece of ass.

(I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but by the looks of it, it's probably all very relevant)
