It's hard to compare the music scene of Paris to London or New York because the French of their own unique pantheon of pop music stars most of whom sing in French and are rarely heard outside of France.

Paris has a lot of discotheques and Parisians invented the discotheque dance club way back in the early 1960s.

My favorite club in Paris was Le Pompon which was a converted synagogue. There are live indie bands in the basement with a huge discotheque upstairs. The real action doesn't start until midnight and usually goes on til dawn.

La Batofar is floating lighthouse on the Seine River that has a seething concert hall, restaurant, terrace overlooking the water, and a "beach" in summer on the riverside. The music extends from reggae and heavy metal, to afrobeat and breakcore.
