I've lost heaps of dvd's and books to friends and flat mates. If you ask for it back you will have to out of your way to get it back or find out people lost it. I had a flat mate denying that he's seen my CDs that my other flat mate had borrowed and it was meant to be on the dinner table! One day I snuck into his room and he had them on his desk!
