It could be possible that people think what was played in the early days of Punk as the same as hardcore punk and Nazi punk a decade later but it's not. Punk wasn't a interruption but a continuation of Garage Rock, and Glam Rock before it. Early Punk was also a back to basics it wasn't too, not different from the early Rock n Roll, Rockabilly and Surf. Some of the songs considered "proto" Punk before the Sax Pistols' debut album like The Dictators - California Sun (Surf), and Blue Cheer Summertime Blues (Rockabilly) proves both the continuity and evolution of Rock music into Punk Rock.
