I'm glad to see people legitimately thinking about this!

Just a few things I might add...

For the record, I didn't make an introduction thread, I just started posting.

I eventually made an intro thread for no other reason than to explain my music interests.

Who cares if everyone welcomes them? That would seem a little disingenuous to me. It would seem faked. But the natural progression of people welcoming others, when they see the post, or feel like they want to welcome someone feels like a better fit to me.

Then just,

"Hi everyone my name is Bob"

"Hi Bob!" (REALLY?)
I think you are over exaggerating just a tad.

Like I said, it only takes a few seconds, and most new members aren't going to be thinking "Well I wonder if this person is saying hi just to say that he or she did," They'll be instead thinking, "Hey, that person welcomed me! He or she was nice to do that."

That's at least how I see it.
