I've always looked at LPs, CDs, etc - the "stuff" of music -
as glorified business cards. Since you shouldn't have to pay
for someone's business card, the same thing applies here.
Art pieces, created one by one, or sometimes in multiples:
if they're considered modern masterworks, they're sold for
BIG bucks. When you create a CD that's packaged like all the
others - something that doesn't stand out as anything musically
or visually original or interesting - having little redeeming quality
that sets it apart from others, it's no wonder that you can't make a
buck off it - nor should you. Again: "Hey, here's my music.
This is what I do. Come see me at ____________________"
Be less like other artists - or, at least, beat them at their own game.
Create something special that's not meant to be mass-marketed -
something that curious and creative-minded people will want to own
as an original piece that both sounds and looks original.
"Hey, look at this special edition of this Nurse With Wound recording.
It looks and sounds excellent!" Just put in some effort to stand out.
I pretty much agree with this.

I think that in this wondrous, vast new world of internet communication and networking, artists need to get the hell over the fact that people get to listen to their music for free and find more ways to make money besides just creating and producing that music. Tour, sell merchandise, jump on the revived interest in records.

Besides, even if people DID pay for their music, those who couldn't afford to do so could really just hang out with a friend who can and listen to their collection. At least by having their own supply they gain a greater appreciation for artists.... and are more likely to pay to see them live or buy a t-shirt.

So the music itself? Yeah, I think it should be free. Especially considering everyone and their ****ing brother is a musician nowadays.

Shows, merch, etc? Jack them prices up. That's how you can make your money.

It's a renewed world, adapt or go extinct. This is just a return to the bard times of lore when musicians weren't the ****ing gods they've become in the last century or so and were amongst the most poor in society. Hobbies usually don't pay the bills, get a real job and stop putting all your energy into trying to get rich off expressing yourself.

Tldr I kinda hate musicians who are in it for money, especially considering how much longer artwork has pretty much been free online, not to mention all the free reading material nowadays. What makes music a more valid work of art? It's high time it faced the same fate as every other HOBBY.

You can't make money off reproducing the same thing over and over again practically as a copy paste. Play shows or sell an original canvas.
