I don't care about perma deaths and those other things you mention but I understand it and there are a few survival type games that are coming out with similar features. Hell even in GTA online when you die your money gets taken that's why it is good to leave a large majority of it in a bank through depositing in the ATM. The game I am thinking of is that Zombie Sim game and all the clones that are being made similar to it. Can't think of the name right now.

WoW still has that challenge component but it is different. Sure everyone gets to raid now where they didn't before and it was grindy as hell farming stupid mats for resist gear. You keep saying it isn't the grinding you like but everything you mention leads back to it and you feeling like that makes things more difficult.

Heroic gear in WoW is not just thrown at you.
