And why would you incarcerate people who break rules? Why can't you incarcerate people for the sheer joy of it? While incarceration is considered a bad thing only one of these is deemed okay because it serves a purpose. If a better system were to be discovered so that people could be quickly rehabilited and introduced back into society without the need for incarceration would we undergo a period where incarcerating others for fun could be seen as a moral grey area until this new system has completely replaced the old one? You're comparing a practice that has only recently been made redundant (in some parts of the world) to one that has yet to be introduced and using the fact they're equally abhorrent to justify both.
