I think we all agree, really. I can't think of a single moment in time where I was dissatisfied with the music being released, it's just that when I look back 2010 stands out. All years are likely of equal merit, but what makes a year stick in the memory is how 'of the time' the music feels and how big of an impact it made on both an individual's personal life and the world around them. When you think about years don't really mean anything anyway, and the last day of 2010 and the first day of 2011 are close to identical if looked at objectively.
It's weird this argument persists in music but hardly pops up in other mediums like painting and literature, where serious arguments could be made about their merit in a modern world.
