You could also go to a baseball or soccer field nearby that isn't being used and let them run around or play fetch with them there. It'll take care of the fleeing situation since most of those fields have fences. That's what my family and I used to do when we didn't have fences for our three dogs who were rather fond of running off. We ended up building an enclosure for them.
