that doesn't even make sense. what does complexity have to with compassion? and who's to say i'm not compassionate? i don't want animals to suffer. but the fact is that this is just part of life, for any organism. i think it's more mature/civilized to come to terms with that than to just ignore it.
i don't even want to really deride anyone if they decide to be vegan or whatever. but as for the moral imperative... yea, no. it seems like you people are living with your eyes closed or something.
i mean maybe we shouldn't have roads, since building a road is basically saying that us getting where we need to go fast is worth more than all the life that will be destroyed in the process of building the road.
