Default The Music Banter Members Journals Weekly Update Thread, week-ending August 16 2015

First off, apologies to two members: I missed out updates for both YorkeDaddy's and Anteater/Unknown Soldier's journals so my humblest apologies. I forget things so easily, you know...

Yes, I completely missed US's review of Foreigner's first album in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...r-journal.html last week, so apologies for that --- blame it on my advancing dementia --- while this week his partner in journalism, Anteater, adds his contribution with an article on Ambrosia's self-titled debut.

Black Francis is having Azure Dreams in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ms-nes-ps.html

snd there's more from http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...s-edition.html with Masada and Rudiementary Peni

Fiddler's closing out old cases and sorting through files in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...es-patrol.html

Almost there! http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...63-2015-a.html reaches 2013 with Chance the Rapper, Run The Jewels, Danny Brown and Liz among others. Meanwhile, preparing for the closing of this journal, Goofle's opening a new one, http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...oving-sec.html. Check it out.

Call in Superman to repair your computer, have some Lemon Jelly and find Paradise. Where else but http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nnerspace.html?

Ki's addiction to Team Fortress 2 seems to have passed, and now you'll find him hip-deep in Fallout 3, if you head down to http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...is-arcade.html --- just don't make any sudden moves! That guy is trigger happy!

In literally one second before the deadline, Pet_Sounds is enthusing over his love for baseball on http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...crap-heap.html --- and now he's gone to watch a game...

If you're interested in the prehistory of music, check out http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ory-music.html, or if your tastes run to something a little less demanding, TechnicLePanther can cater for that too, with http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-pop-flop.html and Wiz Khalifa on the chopping block.

I've tried to update a few of my other journals, now that the Marillion discography has come to an end, so in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html we have more Spooks and The New Statesman, while The Hammers of Misfortune are featured in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...i-reviews.html and the second chapter of Watchmen makes its appearance in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-2000-ad.html. Finally, as promised, an intensive review of Iron Maiden's classic Powerslave is the first album reviewed as http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...e-you-die.html

The problem with

is that I'm conscious of trying all the time not to be awarding it to the same people. I mean, between them, Ki, Unknown Soldier and Innerspaceboy could alternate on scooping this each week, but I like to try to give everyone a chance. So although I could certainly have chosen ISB's hilarious article on dumping Windows for Linux, I decided instead to give the accolade to this:

While not my introduction to this band....this album solidified an unending love for them...

the music is a bit slower for the most part....but is so drenched in despondency....it matches the lyrics of coping with ones own loss of sanity and discontent and misunderstanding of human beings so perfectly

i can honestly say i would have never gotten into punk music if not for this band....this is one of the first albums where i listened to the lyrics and allowed the music to be a representation of those feelings....which is exactly what i love about punk rock.....a perfect mix of lyrical expression that matches the music perfectly

on a personal note....when i first bought this album in the mid 90s i was smoking a lot of weed....in the town i lived in weed was a very social drug and usually involved neo hippies.....i would go to their houses buy my shit but they always wanted to hand out and get high (on my weed) and talk about their music.....i would always endure their jam band 60s bullshit and then after looking through their record collection say "hey can i choose next?"...they assumed i found some incredible album....but instead i would pull mine from my bag and play this....pointing out the specifics on the song "Radio Schizo"
And that's all we have time for this week.
See you in the funny papers!
Toodles!
