my hs didn't really have the classic "clique" thing going on. It was relatively small (graduating class was ~300), so I knew pretty much everyone. I also had the benefit of going through high school with many people that I grew up with since kindergarten, so there wasn't really an awkward transition period. we had our groups I guess, but they were extremely fluid, and parties usually incorporated many of them.
Im still good friends with about 20 people I went to hs with, and still see others from time to time through other mutual friends.
donno if id say I was "popular" but it was a fun time for me. post-hs is better but I have no horror stories or anything from it.
