Me too. Except, replace "a kid's" with "my own".

Aaahhhh, memories...

Going to high school in the early 80's we had the Jocks, Preppies, Stoners, and the Nerds. Just take a look at Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Breakfast Club, or any other early to mid 80's movie that depicts teenage life during that time. That was pretty close to what things were like. Then there were the people that didn't quite fit into any of those categories. That was me. I had all art classes by my Junior year, and was in line for a scholarship for AIT by my senior year, so I was known for being a bit of an artist. I drew fake tattoo's on peoples body parts for money, and on notebooks for free if you were nice to me. In graphic arts class, the teacher would let us bring in and play any albums or 8-Tracks we wanted. When it was my turn, I brought in an 8-Track of Iron Maiden's "Killers". Not a lot of people were into it back then. I remember smoking a lot of pot and doing a good share of acid too during those times with a small bunch of friends that either dropped out, or went to behavioral disorder schools (I didn't associate with anyone from my school at all). We'd all meet up at one of the many forts that we'd made everyday after school and get drunk or stoned on whatever we could find. We made some pretty ****ing cool forts too. At one point we actually built a log cabin in the woods. A mother****ing Log cabin. I wish I still had that piece of wood where I carved "WAR PIGS" into it. I guess you could say I was sort of a Metal Head and people thought it was strange, since it wasn't really a thing yet, or just becoming one and no one knew how to process it. I was just passionate about the music, and didn't care about anything else.

Pretty much the same here except Dazed and Confused captures my era better.

Certainly deadly, if not quite silent.

Well if you're a school then of course the kids are going to hate you.

my hs didn't really have the classic "clique" thing going on. It was relatively small (graduating class was ~300), so I knew pretty much everyone. I also had the benefit of going through high school with many people that I grew up with since kindergarten, so there wasn't really an awkward transition period. we had our groups I guess, but they were extremely fluid, and parties usually incorporated many of them.

Im still good friends with about 20 people I went to hs with, and still see others from time to time through other mutual friends.

donno if id say I was "popular" but it was a fun time for me. post-hs is better but I have no horror stories or anything from it.
