I suppose I'm fortunate. Most of my friends in this each city have massive vegetable gardens for back yards. There's a considerable population of DIY and Hacker/Maker culture here, both in tech and in farming.
We have an independent community foundry for robotics, custom 3D-printing, and other project-based interests, and similar cooperatives who offer their knowledge about local farming and other specialized skills.
It's not a bad town.
