I know about SETI: if they didn't think there was a chance of there being life out there they'd shut that thing down, wouldn't they? Sure they even think it's possible life might exist on Europa, and life may have existed on Mars at one point. I can't see why you, or anyone else, would totally dismiss the possibility when the parameters of the search are so immense that there is no way it could be discounted as being futile.
