Max Norman said that during the BOO and DOAM recording sessions, the band would record the basic tracks and then Randy would take a copy and go into another room all by himself and work out his solos in a very short period of time. He'd then come back into the studio and record the solos. And then record the solos two more times so they could be panned center, far right, and far left.
Norman said he was always blown away how (1) Randy could come up with amazing stuff so quickly, and (2) be able to nail them exactly two more times having just created them. Norman would slightly alter the echo, delay, and modulation to differentiate the 3 takes.
That's what makes Randy's stuff on those albums sound so cool.
