Hearing them with my guitarist ears at the time they were first released? They were equally as much of a mind ****. I'd already been thru guys like McLaughlin, Dimeola, and Morse before hearing Eruption so the speed was no big thing. The tapping and extreme whammy bar stuff was the mind **** for me.
With Rhoads it was his incorporation of bits of classical phrasing and his intensity and approach to solos that blew my mind.
