For 2000 years, at least, there was no hope for around 90% of the population whose lives were slavery start to finish. Beneath current African subsistence farming by far. Kingdoms came and went and wars were won and lost but the basic fact of life was that the vast majority was owned through all kinds of crazy debts and rents in an inescapable generational endless cycle of horrible economic oppression until the Red Guards exploded a destroyed the whole ****ing ****hole except for what Mao could preserve for himself. The Great Leap Forward was a disgusting cluster**** but it reorganized things that opened the gate for one of the most nihilistic hate **** civil rights movements the world has ever known. And they were inspired by Mao for whatever ****ing reason.
China’s still a ****ing mess but there is social mobility and growing middle class. It had to go down hard and nasty to break that kind of entrenched oppression. ****ing centuries of chains they had to remove. That **** wasn’t going to just happen.
