Because I imagine that most people have not met you and asked your opinion on this subject. I'm not excusing it, but there is a reality of people being ignorant. Step one could be to only take things immediately directed at you personally.
I'm with you on the word being homophobic and Em clinging to homophobia with his use of it, but the blanket statements and self-righteousness really don't help your case.
