Reading innerspace's stuff has made me think that I could put my slightly above average writing skills to better use writing pieces about certain bands, scenes and genres. I was thinking of doing a retrospective piece on the history of nu jazz for my webzine but nothing's concrete yet.
I know the feeling. Back when I had a journal here, there were only so many adjectives I could use to describe fuzzy Garage Rock songs.

I say go for it. Write a few editorial pieces and see if it puts some fire back in your balls. And write a piece on Disco while you're at it!
