they have (had) a system called VAM -value added model - which compares your students’ gains against computer generated projected gains of whoever would replace you
a score of 0 meant they figure the next teacher would be almost the same
3 was a good score
-3 was a bad score
whatever algorithm they used factored in the reality that ghetto kids never learn ****
tbh if you’re teaching rich suburban kids who test well you’re VAM score can get ****ed really easily because if a few kids don’t make Adequate Yearly Progress and drop from a top percentile to a medium or lower that ****s up your rating more than a bunch of historically ****ty test takers staying ****ty
what makes teaching ghetto kids so torturous is they destroy everything
they yell and cuss all day and constantly vandalize everything
people visit rich kid schools and there’s nice **** on the walls and good working computers and a nice library - ghetto kids get all that **** too though but they destroy it
after a few years you get ****ing sick of it
the kids are victims of history and circumstance - you know that but over time their cultural disease drives you crazy
your good intentions turn into disgust
