Not finding a band's subject matter or fanbase any good, however, doesn't make a band bad. It just means you don't resonate or empathize or care enough about whatever ideas they are trying to express. Isn't that the crux of MB?
Subject matter's a part of the music, so I wouldn't say it's off of the table.
