Well that may be your problem. I listen to music with two ears.

"worst popular band of all time?" probably maybe. However they influenced The Strokes - mainly the opening to Sweet Child of Mine. So I have zero hate for the band. GnR is more like "pleb music" rec by a royal blue blood than by a lowly plebeian.

On a song-to-song basis kinda thing, Tool are fine. 'Schism' and 'Vicarious' were good singles. They're like a poppier, 70's prog influenced Melvins. In that sense, I'm actually surprised they got as big as they did.

Not finding a band's subject matter or fanbase any good, however, doesn't make a band bad. It just means you don't resonate or empathize or care enough about whatever ideas they are trying to express. Isn't that the crux of MB?

Subject matter's a part of the music, so I wouldn't say it's off of the table.

In my opinion, it's good to not care about whether or not your taste is plebeian. In both cases it's just masturbatorty.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Why aren't Corrosion of Conformity a pleb redneck cult band? Of all the people who dicksucked Pantera and Tool over the years you'd think COC would be one of the Holy Trinity. Maybe COC are actually good so they're ineligible.

COC still has serious cred leftover from the 80’s

Genuinely good + an unwillingness to drive a formula into the ground = angry rednecks

They definitely suffer from too much filler imo.
