That's more related to the decline of the album than the public's interest in rock you fake ass Scotsman. All of the artists mentioned would get decent recognition amongst this average Joe fella and his friends for their recent work.

If you're looking for an album though, American Idiot came out the year after St. Anger. I also remember Viva la Vida getting tons of buzz at the time (2008) but I'm not sure people could remember the album title over Coldplay's name. Would St. Anger be a blip on the general public's radar?
