I definitely believe that fasciscm is capitalism being scared of workers rising up into socialism. There's something more there about identity politics as product after capitalism has stripped the culture from a society but that's hard to pin down. In the first half of the 20th century it was real fear and that's why it was such an extreme reaction. Now capitalism is rightfully complacent about socialism and the left which is why its a much more subtle movement against the workers who very much realize that something is up that is writhing around them like a snake even if they can't recognize the feeling of scales after so long.
