Hmm. Nick Cave eh? Well now I love him but I wonder if he'd be in your general boulevard of enjoyment. Most of his songs are quite dark and deal with violent themes (not all but a lot) and his early stuff can be quite chaotic. Personally, if you're gonna explore Cave I'd recommend a lantern on your helmet and a pickaxe, but if you're gonna explore the music of Nick Cave I'd go for
The Boatman's Call
Henry's Dream
The Good Son
Murder Ballads
And No More Shall We Part
Let Love In

then his more recent stuff like
The Skeleton Tree
Push the Sky Away

(I have yet to listen to Ghosteen)

Anything else might be a case of personal taste, but I'm still working on those.

Also if you find you like Cave and aren't already familiar with him you might want to check out Tom Waits. Could be a shock though. Try
Heartattack and Vine
Blue Valentine
Small Change

to ease you in

then go for
Rain Dogs
Swordfishtrombones

and on from there
