As far as i know, the allegations he actually went to court for were more recently (2004 or something) like rubber soul said. The majority of the allegations from the 60s, 70s, 80s etc actually came out after the testimony of that case went public. If Cosby did rape all these women, the weakness of the case is due largely to the decades of silence. That doesn't mean he's any less of a rapist if it did go down like that. But it's not clear what actually happened because the evidence is largely long gone.

Yes rape cases are notoriously hard to prosecute because without an immediate rape kit there tends to be little to no evidence and traumatized rape victims tend to be "shy" about reporting their attackers even when they're not rich and powerful people who can drag their name through the mud for scumbag to jeer at. This can't be your first time being made aware of this.
