Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues
Year: 1956

Everyone has heard of Billie Holiday, but have you ever heard Billie Holiday? What a voice, note that by the time this is recorded the strength of youth may have passed but it is replaced by the weight of her life so far. The world has an endless supply of technically gifted singers, but very few are able to channel so much raw emotion into their voice. It also goes to show how much music has changed, this is a large amount of re-recordings of old hits with a few new songs here and there. Overall a beautiful album, and here Lady Day sure does sing the blues.

3 Choice Tracks: Strange Fruit, God Bless the Child, Willow Weep for Me
