Welcome back, Comus. I love how you're right back into your old thread, picking up where you left off.

Kaizer's I already know (agree they are fun), but Passenger I've never heard of and it sounds right up my alley. I definitely need some new musical input, so I'll check this one out.

Passenger - Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted

Remember Passenger? No? Let Her Go from All the Little Lights made Passenger internationally know, and don't get me wrong it's a great song and an even greater album. But the problem is Let Her Go isn't what passenger is, and so that popularity quickly faded away. Since then Passenger has been quietly continuing to make his own brand of Folk music, and doing it really well. Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted is a great example of what this Artist can really do and is a good starting point if you've only ever heard Let Her Go or never heard of Passenger at all. This is a melancholic and beautiful album that is definitely worth a few listens to fully appreciate what is being done. People also completely hate it, that alone should make you interested.

3 Choice Tracks: Sword from the Stone, Remember to Forget, London in the Spring
Hey Comus! I remember your avvy: weren't you the one with First Taste or something at one point? Anyway, I got into Passenger by accident, bought ATLL and really loved it, but I haven't really had a chance to explore any more of his music. Will put this one on the (very long) list.

And welcome back!

Album 932

Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues
Year: 1956

Everyone has heard of Billie Holiday, but have you ever heard Billie Holiday? What a voice, note that by the time this is recorded the strength of youth may have passed but it is replaced by the weight of her life so far. The world has an endless supply of technically gifted singers, but very few are able to channel so much raw emotion into their voice. It also goes to show how much music has changed, this is a large amount of re-recordings of old hits with a few new songs here and there. Overall a beautiful album, and here Lady Day sure does sing the blues.

3 Choice Tracks: Strange Fruit, God Bless the Child, Willow Weep for Me

Her voice had changed too after years of alcohol and drug abuse. I agree through, this is an incredible collection of songs, especially her rendition of Willow Weep For Me (can't imagine anyone topping her original recordings, especially Strange Fruit).

Album 931

Joe Henderson - The Elements
Year: 1974

It was hard to figure out which Joe Henderson album to include, as a big hard bop fan I could have turned to Page One or Inner Urge. But the ultimately The Elements with it's fusion and spiritual landscape helped on by Alice Coltrane makes this an incredibly easy listen. What I love about Jazz is that you can sit back with a nice Whisky and absorb every note, or alternatively pop it on and just have it lay a background to your otherwise occupied thoughts. The Elements is great at both, but the first listen deserves your full attention.

3 Choice Tracks: There's four.

Arch nemesis is stretching it a bit, as I recall you didn't even ban me in your rampage. Doing pretty good, yourself?

Billie Holiday may be the artist I listen to the most these days. Just off the top of my head, some other great recordings by her (imo) are her versions of All Of Me, Solitude, If You Were Mine and Blue Moon.

If I remember correctly that process was completely random, a Thanos finger snap kinda deal, pretty sure I would have banned you otherwise.

Anyway it's meh as usual for me and in all seriousness welcome back.
