Isn't that what guitar is about? Playing what you feel? if it was just a competition on who was the fastest, we would all play football. and dont get me wrong. there are plenty of non-bluesy guitarists (which is obviously my taste) that have soul. Tommi Iomi for instance. He started heavy metal. Rhandy Rhoads. Brian May. Pete Townsend. What about these guys?
