There are two ways to go about it. Either the DIY route of getting to know people who work for large magazines and reviewing websites (obviously takes a long time) or theres the professional route of employing a
PR company (takes alot of money)... places like Kerrang, RockSound, Pitchfork etc etc will usually only review releases that have come to them through one of these methods. Just a demo through the door will rarely have any effect.
