I think it's pretty much the pinnacle of his work. Drugstore cowboy was just bland, Elephant owes a great deal of its style to Alan Clarke's original short but fails to achieve the same impact and Paranoid park was beautiful to look at but completely ruined by the amateur performances (I guess I place too much importance on acting, one of the reasons why I absolutely
hate all but one Bresson film that I've seen). I've never bothered with Gerry and Last days...:\
OT:
Campy, sexual and sorta rough, like all Fassbinder's films, but not without its good sides. It was a trip to see it at the theater though...6/10
OH, forgot to mention apropos Phoenix's sexyness, I always think of him when I see Emile Hirsch for some reason, they both have that natural, James Dean-like sexual vibe...
