Any of the parts where they try to render people always look terrible to me, even today I still don't think they've got that right.
The 'wargs' as well (I was annoyed they weren't giant wolves like in the book), there was a horrible sequence involving them in the second movie I think. I can't reel all the failures off because I haven't seen it in years; however in comparison the balrog and the giant spider looked fantastic, they looked alive.
I mean I saw the first two when they came out and 'the Two Towers' left such a bitter taste I refused to pay to see the third one!
