Free, best know for "All Right Now" was second only to Cream in producing some of the finest blues rock which high-lighted the eternal battle between the sexes. Often menacing, Free songs often stalked women like hunters, only to have their hearts broken and spirit paralyzed. They reveled in the high-stakes serious drama that occurs between lovers. Free's music was hard, spartan and immaculately performed by a young and soon to be legendary vocalist in Paul Rodgers, and the melodically gifted guitarist Paul Kossof. Rodgers was at the top of his prowess during his stint with Free, demonstrating the smooth soulful range of Stevie Wonder with a far more grittier harshness that made their hard driving blues rockers more menacing. Paul Kossof's technique was a combination of stinging sustains and economical restraint, lending more impact to Free's type of stripped down minimal blues.
