Free, best know for "All Right Now" was second only to Cream in producing some of the finest blues rock which high-lighted the eternal battle between the sexes. Often menacing, Free songs often stalked women like hunters, only to have their hearts broken and spirit paralyzed. They reveled in the high-stakes serious drama that occurs between lovers. Free's music was hard, spartan and immaculately performed by a young and soon to be legendary vocalist in Paul Rodgers, and the melodically gifted guitarist Paul Kossof. Rodgers was at the top of his prowess during his stint with Free, demonstrating the smooth soulful range of Stevie Wonder with a far more grittier harshness that made their hard driving blues rockers more menacing. Paul Kossof's technique was a combination of stinging sustains and economical restraint, lending more impact to Free's type of stripped down minimal blues.

The Strawbs

They're a prog folk group. One of the defining bands of the genre, with a very country guitar sound.

And yeah that's Rick Wakeman on the left, he was in the band before joining Yes.
The Stawbs are absolutely amazing, they have such a lush brilliant sound.

MASSIVELY agree.

i think the Connor brothers went on to other stuff as well, one of 'em replaced Lou Barlow for a bit in DJR and i'm sure they've done other stuff as well, they were very talented.
I love Lanegan's mellow, chill voice. It can really calm you down provided you're listening to one of their better songs, heh.

Yummy. They don't receive much recognition around the internet, although you can find their album on iTunes. The trio has a creative blend of funk, rock, and hip hop. Their lead singer has a unique voice and is a great bass player.

You can check out their stuff on their myspace:

Toto. They have some pretty awesome songs, and I'm not just talking about Hold The Line either.

I don't like Toto but I will say Steve Lukather is an excellent guitarist, he's done session work for Michael Jackson and a lot of other artists, he was the guy who did the riff to Beat It.

This is matter of opinion, but I think Sleep is one of the best heavy metal bands and they've hardly gotten any attention. I really enjoy there music.

I definitely agree with Toadies - they were one of those grunge bands that kind of got thrown to the wayside when Nirvana and Pearl Jam hit it big, sad to say.

Another I'd say would be Metro Station.

Sleep is legendary in stoner metal circles, but certainly not the maintstream. And for the life of me, I can't see why High On Fire (also by Matt Pike) isn't one of the biggest names in metal.
