Well, thats why I
dont do album reviews as I feel it is just easier to tell people my opinion instead of trying to officialise it as a fact, which to me
is elitist.
Look when it comes to talent, I dont listen to the 'supposed' talent you hear about via the media etc etc. I listen to the music and make my own mind up.
What Im saying is that just because you dont like a certain artist or band doesnt automatically make them '****'.
Also 'making good music' is only to your taste again and is inconclusive when recognising talent.
Heres another, I dont really like Joe Satriani that much but I can recognise he is an awesome guitarist.
Also you have made the 'exception' for classical music but that is straying from the OP. I ask, why cant you do the same for all music.
Obviously the pop bands/boybands/lame stuff doesnt even need mentioning..
Also I think that if you rated the album higher than your personal opinion then it would be wrong but that is how vain and shallow the reviews are.
Most of them annoy me as they are just published opinions on music, whereas I dont think anybody should have that.
Obviously, at the end of the day it is music but there is more to how 'good' it sounds, there are the lyrics and the meaning behind the music as wel you know.
I wouldnt just listen to a band I didnt liked because I thought they were good technically but I would have a reserve of respect for them.
The best thing you can do when it comes to judging/rating or in your case reviewing music is be able to recognise talent & let your judgement stretch beyond your own personal taste.
