What on earth sort of breed is a cow dog?
It is the same theory as tapping the edge of the pond before you feed the fish? They have a bad memory but if you do something enough times it's built into their schematic memory so, like Pavlov's Dogs, when they sense the tap they know it's time to surface for some munch.
I find myself going through my picture folders to see if I can spot any pictures to upload to my deviantArt account.
