Comedy is kind of defined by people saying or doing things, in situations, that's perceived as being humorous. A lot of it is reliant on context. If all comedy consisted of was joke-lines and slapstick action, we'd have a pretty narrow concept of humor as a human civilization.
I don't think it's fair that you're dismissing techniques for making people laugh and ignoring the laughing people.
