The two dreamcast games were very good (if flawed) but things really did go downhill once the franchise went multi platform. Sonic Heroes was ok but had a lot of issues. Shadow the Hedgehog is quite bad indeed. I thought Secret Rings was very fun (also flawed) though not much replay value. Haven't played the Sonic 06 game but I've heard nothing but terrible things about it.

When I say the franchise is going downhill that's only accounting for the 3D games, the 2D handheld games have stayed consistantly excellent and it pisses me off that everybody overlooks their existence. It goes without saying that Sonic functions better in 2D.

You would be wrong. The Dreamcast and GBA ones are very good also. I haven't played the DS ones but I've heard good about them. And of course Sonic CD (well that was sort of a Genesis game) which is as good as the Genesis games if not better.

Only Sonic 1 was ported to Game Boy Advance and it was a notoriously awful port.
