I read that he never actually said that. I also read that he was just joking.

I was just looking at all the number one songs that Hal Blaine played on, man that's an impressive resume. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention because I didn't even know who he is. Now I do. Obviously, you know more about the two but I have a special place in my heart for Ringo that's just never going to die. Whenever I listen to The Beatles I think, man, if it weren't for Ringo this just wouldn't have happened. It ticks me off when people act like he was just along for the ride. If you can't see that he was crucial you just don't understand The Beatles, and I'll always stand by that!
